Custom knife boxes are purpose-built packaging solutions designed to protect blades during storage, shipping, and retail display while reinforcing brand identity. They are manufactured from materials such as rigid board, corrugated cardboard, or folding carton stock, and can include foam inserts, magnetic closures, custom printing, and premium finishes. ONO Custom Boxes delivers fully custom knife packaging across the United States with no die plate fees and fast production lead times.
Knives are high-value, high-stakes products. A blade that arrives in a flimsy box or ships without proper blade retention sends one clear signal to your customer: you don’t take your product seriously. The right packaging changes that entirely.
If you’ve dealt with damage claims from blades shifting in transit, customers returning products because the unboxing experience didn’t match the price point, or months-long waits on overseas packaging orders that arrived wrong you already know the problem. These aren’t minor inconveniences. Each one represents lost revenue, brand erosion, and a customer relationship that may not recover.
Custom knife boxes solve all three. Precision-fit inserts eliminate movement. Premium finishing elevates perceived value before the blade is even revealed. Domestic manufacturing keeps lead times inside your launch window.
Common pain points we solve:
From initial concept to delivered pallet, we manufacture custom knife boxes built around the exact dimensions, weight, and branding requirements of your product. Every box begins with structural engineering: blade cavity depth, handle clearance, insert compression, and closure mechanism are specified before a single sheet of material is cut.
Whether you need rigid luxury knife boxes for collector editions, corrugated shipping cases for wholesale distribution, folding carton retail packaging, or magnetic closure gift boxes, our production team handles the full manufacturing process domestically so you get faster approvals, tighter tolerances, and no import logistics headaches.
We print with CMYK and Pantone-matched inks, apply soft-touch laminate, matte or gloss coatings, foil stamping, and debossing. Every custom printed knife box we deliver is a brand asset, not just a container.
By the numbers:
The right packaging structure depends on your product’s price point, distribution channel, and customer. Here is a breakdown of what we manufacture.
Rigid knife boxes also called set-up boxes are the premium choice for collector-grade knives, gift sets, and high-end retail environments. Built from thick chipboard wrapped in specialty paper, they maintain their structure permanently and deliver an unmistakably premium feel the moment a customer picks them up.
Ideal for hunting knives, custom handmade blades, chef knife sets, and any knife positioned at the upper end of the market. We offer two-piece lid and base configurations, clamshell styles, and ribbon-pull variants, all with precision foam or velvet inserts.
Best for: Collector knives, high-end retail, gift sets, handmade blades, chef knife sets.
Custom folding carton knife packaging is the most versatile format for retail distribution. Manufactured from SBS or CCNB board, these boxes ship flat and assemble quickly, keeping per-unit costs efficient without sacrificing print quality.
Perfect for pocket knife packaging, folding knife boxes, kitchen cutlery, and any knife SKU heading to big-box retail, specialty outdoor stores, or e-commerce fulfillment. We print in up to 6 colors with Pantone matching and offer full bleed coverage on every panel.
Best for: Pocket knives, retail distribution, e-commerce, kitchen cutlery, outdoor gear.
Personalized knife gift boxes are engineered for the unboxing experience. These luxury knife boxes combine structural integrity with aesthetic impact satin ribbon pulls, magnetic closures, interior logo printing, and custom-colored flocking create a presentation worthy of premium gifting occasions.
We serve corporate gifting programs, groomsmen knife sets, anniversary editions, and branded merchandise programs. Custom tissue paper, sleeve wrapping, and insert cards can be incorporated into the complete packaging system.
Best for: Corporate gifting, personalized gifts, luxury presentation, anniversary editions.
Corrugated knife boxes provide the structural protection required for wholesale distribution, multi-knife sets, and direct-to-consumer shipping. Available in single-wall, double-wall, and triple-wall configurations depending on blade size and shipment weight.
We offer custom printed corrugated boxes with inside and outside printing, die-cut windows, and interior foam or cardboard inserts. Suitable for outdoor gear suppliers, hunting equipment distributors, and wholesale knife brands shipping direct from warehouse.
Best for: Wholesale distribution, D2C shipping, multi-knife sets, heavy blades.
Magnetic closure knife boxes deliver a tactile luxury experience that rigid boxes and folding cartons cannot replicate. The concealed magnet mechanism creates a satisfying snap on close and signals premium quality before the product is even revealed.
These boxes are particularly effective for branded knife boxes used in retail gift shops, knife subscription boxes, and e-commerce orders where unboxing content adds marketing value. Available in rigid and semi-rigid construction with full interior customization.
Best for: Luxury e-commerce, gift retail, subscription boxes, brand flagship products.
Knife display boxes serve dual purposes: protecting the product and merchandising it at point of sale. Window-cut designs allow customers to view the blade and handle without opening the box, reducing shrinkage and handling while increasing conversion at retail.
Counter display units and shelf-ready packaging options are available for multi-unit knife displays. Ideal for custom retail knife boxes used in sporting goods stores, kitchen retailers, and outdoor supply chains.
Best for: Retail POS, counter displays, shelf-ready packaging, sporting goods.

If your business involves knives moving from production to customer at any volume, through any channel we have a packaging solution built for your specific requirements.
What is the minimum order quantity for custom knife boxes?
We work with orders starting at 100 units for most folding carton and corrugated styles. Rigid knife boxes and magnetic closure boxes typically have a minimum of 200–500 units depending on the configuration. For wholesale knife boxes in high volumes, we provide tiered pricing that significantly reduces the per-unit cost. Contact our team to discuss the best structure for your specific quantity.
Can you match my exact brand colors on custom printed knife boxes?
Yes. We print using both CMYK 4-color process and Pantone-matched inks. If your brand standards specify a Pantone reference number, we match to that specification before production is approved. We provide a print proof digital and, on request, physical for your approval before committing to the full production run. Color consistency is maintained across all units in a run through mid-production pull checks.
What materials are used for protective knife packaging inserts?
Insert materials depend on the knife type, weight, and protection level required. For rigid and luxury knife boxes, we most commonly use precision-die-cut EVA foam, polyurethane foam, and velvet-wrapped foam cradles. For folding carton retail packaging, kraft or corrugated cardboard inserts provide blade separation at lower cost. For collector and display applications, flocked velvet inserts in custom cavities deliver the highest-end presentation. All insert configurations are designed to secure the blade tip, edge, and handle independently.
How long does it take to receive custom knife boxes after placing an order?
Standard production lead time is 8–10 business days from artwork approval for folding carton and corrugated orders. Rigid knife boxes and magnetic closure styles typically require 10–14 business days due to additional manufacturing steps. Rush production options are available for time-sensitive launches. Delivery transit time depends on your shipping destination within the United States. We provide tracking on all shipments.
Do you charge die plate or setup fees for custom packaging?
No. We do not charge die plate fees, setup fees, or tooling charges on custom knife box orders. The per-unit price you receive in your quote is the full manufacturing cost of your packaging. This policy allows brands to order custom packaging without absorbing large upfront tooling costs that disadvantage lower-volume first orders.
Can I get a physical sample before committing to a full production run?
Yes. Physical pre-production samples are available on request. Sampling fees apply and are credited back against your first production order. For clients ordering rigid or luxury knife boxes for the first time, we strongly recommend a physical sample approval step to verify insert fitment with your actual blade before production at scale. Digital proofs are included in all orders at no additional cost.
Do you offer eco-friendly or sustainable knife packaging options?
Yes. We offer FSC-certified board materials, recycled-content corrugated, soy-based inks, and water-based coatings as alternatives to conventional production materials. Sustainable protective knife packaging is increasingly requested by brands selling through eco-conscious retail channels or direct to environmentally aware consumers. Our team can advise on the sustainability profile of different material and coating combinations during the quoting process.

At Ono Custom Boxes, our Artwork Preparation Guide helps ensure your custom packaging design is print-ready for high-quality results. To get started, submit vector files (AI, EPS, or PDF) in CMYK color mode, with a 1/8 inch bleed and 300 DPI resolution. Convert all text to outlines and keep it at least 1/4 inch from the edges. Review your proof to ensure accuracy before submitting. Following these steps will guarantee your design is perfectly printed on your custom boxes.

The cut line is the outline that marks where your custom packaging will be trimmed. It is typically represented by a solid black line in your artwork file.

The bleed line is the area extending beyond the cut line, usually marked with a green line in your artwork. Typically, a 1/8 inch (0.125") bleed is required to prevent any unwanted white borders.

The crease line, marked by red lines in your artwork, indicates where the box will be folded during production.

Perforation lines, shown as dotted black lines, indicate where the box will have small, evenly spaced holes for easy tearing or separation. These are often used for tear-away sections.

The safety margin, marked by dotted green lines, is the area around the cut line where important elements (such as text, logos, or graphics) should be kept clear.
