Custom counter display boxes are branded countertop packaging units that hold and showcase products at checkout counters and high-traffic retail spots. Made from durable cardboard or kraft board and printed with your logo and artwork, they increase product visibility, trigger impulse purchases, and typically boost point-of-sale conversions by 20–30% for retail, food, CBD, cosmetic, and supplement brands.
Here’s a hard truth most brands learn too late: shelf placement alone doesn’t sell products. Shoppers walk past hundreds of items on their way to checkout, and by the time they reach the register, their attention is up for grabs. The brands that win that moment are the ones sitting on the counter organized, branded, and impossible to miss.
If your lip balms are scattered in a bin, your energy shots are hidden behind the register, or your CBD gummies are stacked in their shipping carton, you’re losing sales every single day. Retailers won’t merchandise your product for you. A well-designed counter display does that job automatically and it does it in every store you’re stocked in.
That’s exactly the problem custom display boxes solve, and it’s why they remain one of the highest-ROI investments in retail packaging.
Custom counter display boxes also called countertop display boxes or POP counter display boxes are self-contained merchandising units built to sit on checkout counters, deli cases, pharmacy counters, and other point-of-purchase surfaces. Unlike standard shipping cartons, they’re engineered to do two jobs at once: protect your product in transit and sell it the moment the lid comes off.
Most printed counter display boxes ship flat, then fold into shape in seconds. Many arrive as PDQ (Pretty Darn Quick) trays: the retailer tears along a perforation, removes the lid, and the pre-loaded display is ready for the counter no restocking labor, no merchandising guesswork.
Common formats include:
Every element size, structure, dividers, header shape, and printing is customized to your product’s dimensions and your brand’s look.
Plenty of printers can put ink on cardboard. Building a display that survives shipping, assembles in under a minute, holds 24 units without sagging, and still looks sharp after three weeks on a busy counter that takes structural engineering experience. Here’s what sets us apart:
Free structural design and dieline development. Our design team builds a custom dieline around your exact product dimensions, so units sit snugly and face forward. You approve a 3D digital proof (and a physical sample on request) before anything goes to press.
No-surprise pricing with low minimums. Wholesale counter display boxes are available starting at just 100 units practical for regional brands and product launches, not just national rollouts. Volume pricing scales as you grow.
Retail-grade materials. We use E-flute and B-flute corrugated board for strength, SBS cardboard for premium print surfaces, and recycled kraft for eco-friendly counter display boxes. Every material is tested for weight-bearing performance, not just appearance.
Full-color printing that holds up. CMYK and PMS offset printing, digital printing for short runs, and finishes including gloss, matte, soft-touch lamination, spot UV, and foil stamping so your display looks as premium as your product.
Nationwide USA delivery. Standard turnaround is 8–10 business days after proof approval, with rush production available for seasonal promotions and trade show deadlines.
Full-bleed exterior and interior printing, Pantone color matching for strict brand guidelines, and finishing options from matte lamination to embossing. Branded counter display boxes with a printed header card consistently outperform plain trays because the header does the selling at eye level.
Product dividers, angled risers, tear-away PDQ lids, hang tabs, and QR code panels that link shoppers to promotions or subscription offers. For food and beverage companies, we also offer grease-resistant coatings and food-safe liners.
Eco-friendly counter display boxes made from recycled and FSC-certified board, printed with soy-based inks, and fully curbside-recyclable. Retailers increasingly favor sustainable displays and many chains now require them.
They capture the impulse-buy moment. Industry research consistently shows that a large share of checkout-area purchases are unplanned. Point of purchase display boxes put your product exactly where that decision happens.
They multiply your brand impressions. A counter display works like a miniature billboard in every store that stocks you thousands of daily impressions at a fraction of the cost of traditional advertising.
They win retailer buy-in. Retailers say yes to products that merchandise themselves. A pre-loaded PDQ display eliminates stocking labor, which makes buyers far more willing to give you counter space.
They keep products organized and protected. No crushed boxes, no messy bins, no products hidden from view. Displays keep inventory faced, counted, and easy to restock.
They’re remarkably cost-efficient. Most custom retail display boxes cost between $2 and $8 per unit at moderate volumes. If a single display generates even a handful of extra sales per week, it pays for itself many times over.
Typical timeline from approved proof to delivered displays: 8–10 business days.
Product display boxes work across nearly every retail category, but they deliver the biggest impact for:
If your product sells for under $30 and can be picked up on impulse, a counter display almost certainly belongs in your retail strategy.
Pricing depends on size, material, print coverage, and quantity. Most projects fall between $2 and $8 per display at volumes of 250–1,000 units, with per-unit costs dropping significantly at higher quantities. Structural design and digital proofs are included free.
Our minimum is 100 units one of the lowest in the industry. This makes custom displays accessible for product launches, regional tests, and trade shows without committing to a massive print run.
Standard turnaround is 8–10 business days after proof approval, plus transit time. Rush production in 5–6 business days is available for time-sensitive promotions.
Most countertop display boxes range from 9″×6″ to 15″×12″ footprints, with headers adding 4″–8″ of height. The right size depends on your product dimensions, units per display, and the counter space your retailers can realistically offer. Our structural team recommends dimensions during your free consultation compact footprints get approved by retailers far more often than oversized ones.
Yes. Interior printing is a popular upgrade because the inside walls face the shopper once the display is open. It’s an inexpensive way to add promotional messaging, brand color, or product education.
Yes. We offer displays made from recycled corrugated and kraft board, printed with soy-based inks and fully recyclable. Many national retailers now prefer or require sustainable POP displays, so this is often a smart default choice.
Displays ship flat to minimize freight costs and fold together in under a minute no tape or tools needed for auto-lock styles. If you work with a co-packer, we can ship directly to them for pre-loading before displays go to stores.
Every day your product sits in a bin or a plain shipping box, checkout sales go to a competitor who invested in presentation. Custom counter display boxes are one of the fastest, most affordable ways to change that in every store you’re stocked in, all at once.

At Ono Custom Boxes, our Artwork Preparation Guide helps ensure your custom packaging design is print-ready for high-quality results. To get started, submit vector files (AI, EPS, or PDF) in CMYK color mode, with a 1/8 inch bleed and 300 DPI resolution. Convert all text to outlines and keep it at least 1/4 inch from the edges. Review your proof to ensure accuracy before submitting. Following these steps will guarantee your design is perfectly printed on your custom boxes.

The cut line is the outline that marks where your custom packaging will be trimmed. It is typically represented by a solid black line in your artwork file.

The bleed line is the area extending beyond the cut line, usually marked with a green line in your artwork. Typically, a 1/8 inch (0.125") bleed is required to prevent any unwanted white borders.

The crease line, marked by red lines in your artwork, indicates where the box will be folded during production.

Perforation lines, shown as dotted black lines, indicate where the box will have small, evenly spaced holes for easy tearing or separation. These are often used for tear-away sections.

The safety margin, marked by dotted green lines, is the area around the cut line where important elements (such as text, logos, or graphics) should be kept clear.
